Change length of text (excerpt) in Services widget

    I would like to change the length of the text which is shown in the Services widget in the Business Page template. After some digging I’ve found where to adjust the length (function ‘excerpt_length’ in functions.php). I’ve changed it to 35 words, but the excerpt of the first page is 33 words, and the other two are 36 words :-s. Can I change it in such a way that it stops after a few sentences, like in the demo of the Attitude theme (https://www.themehorse.com/preview/attitude/)? There the excerpts aren’t cut off mid-sentence. Or can that only be done if the text on your “Read More” page is only a few sentences long (like in the demo)?

    @herz84 You can don’t have to hack the code for this. In the dashboard, go to the pages that you have used in the service widget. Look for the ‘Excerpt’ option box. Write you summary there and click on ‘Update’. This summary will only be shown in the service widget, this will help you control the words or sentence.

    Thanks for your quick reply, but I’m afraid I can’t follow you. I don’t see any ‘Excerpt option box’ when I’m in the editing mode of a page…? Could you maybe clarify with a screenshot?

    Hi

    If you click on screen options which is located on the top right hand side of your WP dashboard, you will find an option called Excerpts there, which you just tick.
