The Update won’t affect the embed code. Usually the featured image will render auto for embed code. You can use the SEO plugin to set the desired images and contents for sharing on social Medias like you can use ‘Yoast SEO’ (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/). You can set the images and content for SEO on each post editor.
