I would like to have the width on the area with text below, exactly the same as the menu above. And then the all the rest with the stripped background.

I have been trying since ages, without success, could you please tell me how can I do it?

Where you want to have that?
If you are asking about to have it on content section then it needs code customization you have to hire a developer for this.
