‘DaleParticipantHello, after backing up my site and following the instructions at the link you provided, I have the child theme installed. I tried copying the content-extensions.php file into my \ultimate-pro-child\inc\structure\ folder and modifying it there (deleting lines 276 to 287) but it did not create the desired effect.
style.css:
/* Theme Name: Ultimate Pro Child Template: ultimate-pro Version: 1.0.0 Text Domain: ultimate-pro-child */
functions.php:
<?php add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles' ); function theme_enqueue_styles() { wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' ); wp_enqueue_style( 'child-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css', array('parent-style') ); } ?>
I need to know how to fit your changes into this child theme. Thanks.
DaleParticipantThanks, that did it!
DaleParticipantI believe he is talking about this:
http://gyazo.com/a21b9419b5375fc7bfc4f46555c21253
It’s a white bar under the custom header image when you disable the header logo and text as seen in
http://gyazo.com/9a58151c7b3c1fffae45e64420b1659bI used a browser plugin to inspect that bar and it told me it comes from the following code:
div class="hgroup-wrap"> <div class="container clearfix"></div> <!-- .container --> </div> <!-- .hgroup-wrap -->
I would like to get rid of the white bar, please.
DaleParticipantThanks! I’ve used options in the Advanced menu and never noticed that. I’m considering writing a tutorial for others like myself who are struggling with this theme. If that happens I’ll post a link.
Best,
DaleDaleParticipantOkay – question: How do I get the promo widget to display above my slider? It seems the business page widgets all function beneath it. I believe you used a promo widget with the same background image as the slider (which has the same image as the site background) for the text above the slider.
DaleParticipantMy goodness, even the ORDER in which you place the widgets in the Business Page Section matter. When I moved the PromoBox widget from above the services widget to below, it shifted on the website. I didn’t have to “save” my settings or anything – just moved it to under the services widget and refreshed the website and BAM – changed. That’s an example of detail missing from the instructions. Pretty cool feature!
DaleParticipantI’ve had access to your instructions since I purchased the theme, and I have read them over and over again.
Here are some things I didn’t see covered in them:
-
On your home page, how do you have the text “Simple, Clean and Beautiful Flat WordPress Theme” above your main slider? I do not know how to enable the slider and then place separate text above it. When I enable the slider it becomes the home page (e.g., my original home page is no longer displayed).
Update:
I just played around with the business theme widgets and I can see they are for the featured areas beneath the slider that say “ELEGANT DESIGN,” “RESPONSIVE DESIGN,” etc. You know it would be really helpful to include in the instructions what these widgets do so the user isn’t left experimenting.My wife was confused why I was having such a difficult time with your theme. I told her that it was like driving a car, only you have a 2-page incomplete instruction manual. Instead of a gas and break pedal, you have 10 pedals. Each pedal has a label, but the labels don’t tell you what they DO. You got 5 steering wheels and you’ve no idea which one actually steers the car. And the a/c controls have like 20 knobs – again, each with a label that doesn’t tell you what each knob actually does. So you suffer in the heat (because you can’t figure out how to turn on the a/c) and fiddle with the controls of the car. Eventually you get it to MOVE, but can’t steer the stupid thing.
Your “instructions” are laughable. Your theme is awesome – I can see it has all sorts of customizations and bells and whistles, but your instructions need a lot of help. Maybe those with a lot of experience can get what they need from the instructions, but casual WordPress users like myself might be left in the lurch.
DaleParticipantJeez I’ve been fiddling with this one issue off and on for almost a month and finally figured it out. Yes you are using the same image in the site background as you are in the slider background. But the difference between your demo and my site was you are using wide layout and I was using narrow. With the narrow layout, using the same image for site/slider background results in this:
http://gyazo.com/1c27ba440335ace052956924db121502
But in wide layout it looks like this:
http://gyazo.com/d808fcc227f4aa90990d02958ef92601
Clearly, I have much work to do still, but I feel a lot better about continuing, knowing my site is going in the direction I wish.
DaleParticipantI’m not referring to the background image – I can do that in PS too. I’m referring to the slide that is positioned over it, that scrolls up and down and has text and images in it. This includes the logo, horizontal menu bar, and everything below the text “Simple, Clean and Beautiful WordPress Theme.” The slide is transparent behind those words, allowing the user to see through to the site background image.
[Just got an idea and went to check]
I think I see how you did it by going into theme options -> advanced -> slogan/slider background image and setting the same image there. But that image needs to be cropped and sized correctly to match the site background image and I don’t know what the dimensions are supposed to be, nor how to crop it so the transition between slider and site background images is seamless as in your demo site.Here is what I’m talking about: site image I got the parallax slide background working, but it does not match up with the site background.
